ABOUT US
The Hoosier Heartland Resource Conservation and Development Council, a nonprofit organization, has been a resource for central Indiana for more than forty five years. We connect people, projects, and tools to help local communities identify and solve local problems based in natural resources.
OUR MISSION
We are a unique organization that helps people care for, conserve and protect natural resources in a way that will improve the area's economy, environment, and living standards. Hoosier Heartland, like all RC&Ds, provides a framework for partnerships and alliances to develop between diverse groups: local citizens, government agencies, and technical experts.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We are a liason between communities/citizens and government, working to identify and secure needed services and assistence to solve local natural resource concerns. We believe in local control and wisely-planned development. Local residents are in the best position to identify ways to enhance their communities' quality of natural resources, economy, and environment. Wise land use requires considering the needs and value of all natural resources: soil and water, air and plants, humans and animals.
JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
The Hoosier Heartland RC&D Council denounces systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality. Racism, discrimination, and inequality of any kind go against our core values, which include respect for people and cultures, and the unification of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ideas. Hoosier Heartland seeks diverse voices, actively listens, engages in dialogue, thinks critically, and takes meaningful action toward creating solutions to our natural resource issues that serve and value people equally. Our goals for helping people care for, conserve and protect natural resources in a way that will improve the area's economy, environment, and living standards cannot be realized without justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We expect these values to be a component of all our projects.
OUR PARTNERS & PEOPLE
Partners are invaluable resources. The council has traditionally consisted of representatives from our region's County Commissioners' Offices, the local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the local county Purdue Cooperative Extension Service. Together these representatives have supported an extensive network of volunteers and sponsors. Likewise, over the years our volunteer committees have worked on a variety of topics and accomplished a great deal. Committee members have come from all walks of life but are brought together by their interest in making Central Indiana a greener, healthier, and more prosperous place to live. You can find some of our partners on the Resources page.
